This is my first post after lurking around for quite awhile.

These photos were taken during the PGA Championship practice round on Wednesday August 6th.

There taken with a Canon 40D and my crap Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6.

Comments and critique are more than welcome.

Welcome to the forums.

Great shots -- you're a "natural!" (sorry, somebody's gonna say it!)

I am in Louisville, with the Ryder Cup coming our way, and I was curious -- did they hassle you any over your camera?

During the practice rounds cameras are permitted and I would say 50% if not more of the poeple in attendance had cameras.
So there was no hassle. The only limitations were the size of the bag you were permitted to bring on to the course. Which was 12x12x12 but they were not very strict with that rule.

I fear that I will receive a little hassle over the gray lens, which is what I hope to carry.

Your fear is unwarranted. I saw MANY people carrying around L series lenses. Many of which did not have press passes.

Not at all, the only PP that was done was a little tweaking in Aperture.

Great shots, I think the reason #2 looked photoshopped is because the golfer is OOF.

I carried around a full LowePro Flipside 300 (which was bigger than 12x12x12), an EF-S 17-55mm w/hood, plus an 70-200 2.8 L with the 1.4x extender and a monopod on Tuesday... Nobody really cares on practice days, so I really doubt you'll have any problems at the Ryder cup. There are so many pro's running around with 500mm+ L's that you seem hardly noticable.

Nice shots...

Could you explain the PP done on #2 here, just to satify my curiosity? It just doesn't look right to me, and I'm trying to convince myself that golfer hasn't just been planted on that background, but I'm strugling at the mo. A mixture of the scale of the golfer, the light falling on him, and the amount of sand still in the air despite a landed ball, all contribute to my suspicions.

He was hitting multiple balls out of the sandtrap which is why there is already a ball on the green. The only PP I did was a crop and a little color tweaking.

Here is the original, I only wish I was as good with Photoshop and you think I am.
