I want to purchase a 77mm circular polarizing filter for my 24-70/2.8L but noticed that the difference in cost between a Canon filter and "General Brand" at BH is significant. Is there any real noticeable difference and is it worth the cost? Thanks!

A 77mm CP means this is probably an L, or f/2.8 lens, with some terrific picture quality possiblities. Grumps

Canon is not the only quailty CP out there, other manufacturers' have very good products. Hoya, B+W, etc.
