What is a good lens to get for a Rebel xTi for going to an NFL Game? I might be able to get on the field and want to have a decent lens. What do you suggest?

Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS (used) at the least. Maybe a 300mm f4L IS as an option and increase ISO if needed.

Rent a 1 series and 300 2.8. Use your XTi and a shorter lens as a backup/second body.

I'd sell the XTi and buy a 40D + Sigma 100-300 f/4 EX. Then you have a better camera and a great sports lens. The only problem will be if you get into low light situations where you need f/2.8. Then I'd suggest either the Canon or Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 lens.

Great idea, the only problem being is you've gotta send it back.

NFL?

Before you make too big plans or spend any money, have you checked about any limitations on photography?

I can't think of a much more restrictive organization than the NFL.

Do you mean field level or the football field? Look into the specifics so you dont get skunked.

At most nfl games fans with a VIP pre-game field pass are allowed on the field for the pre-game warm-ups only. I'm assuming this is what your referring to.

You'll need to get your camera into the stadium thru the normal fans entrances so you'll want to make sure your camera meets the stadium rules for fans.

You may want to consider a 200mm f2.8 - and put a 1.4 extender in your pocket.

If your stadium allows the length of the 70-200 I think that would be the preferred lens.

I agree. If they say no, maybe bring a Canon S5 or similar. They don't seem to mind P&S cameras, even with a 36-432mm lens!

AND video capabilities!

It really is a head scratcher when you have a professional still camera and they say NO but the point and shooters get flagged right on by when restrictions say NO VIDEO CAMERAS.....which 90% of P&S cameras are capable of.
