1st Place - I Used To See Parades by PaulB
Lovely angle, solid striking colours, yet obviously showing neglect over time, a sad thing to see attached to such a new looking building. I'm unsure i'd want to stand on that balcony, it really looks like it wants to give way if any weight was put on it. And finally the brickwork patten maintains it's cohesion practically right upto the top left corner. Excellent !

2nd Place - Weighing In by SkedAddled
Love this piece, it really focuses tight on the subject and places it in a forlorn setting, this so very almost made first place due to it being a powerful & striking image.

3rd Place - A Palm Trees Return To Earth by Dale500
Really nice composition this, although a more acute angle might have made more impact, from the ground up perhaps, like the mighty have fallen type of idea, signifying it's once tall proud status.

Honorable mention - Torn, cracked, and peeling by prcrstn8https://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?u=135721
Reminded me of the door from the tv show Rising Damp. A shame features of the door are half cut on the shot, namely the door knob which I felt spoiled the effect a little. I would have aproached this one in macro mode from the middle of the door pointing towards the knob and lock to utilize DOF. Had that been the case, I feel certain this would have secured a first place win.

Comments:
Thanks to those who chose to take part and revive the competitions, it was good to see everyone sticking to the new rules, no PM's were necessary; although I would have liked to see more people thinking out of the box. For example, a decay control on sound equipment, a rust macro, or a 50/50 split on fresh, and err, not so fresh. That said all entries were of equal merit, and I found it a tough decision reaching the 3 top spots.

Congrats all for good solid entries. I would urge those of you though that can post their EXIF data to do so, we all learn from reading those settings.

Thanks all, and over to you PaulB :)

Thanks BBoi, I think abusedog also had an interesting image and would have got my vote.

I'm so glad you were able to reinvigorate these contests and I will try to keep it going with a subject everyone should like.

Thanks. This was shot literally from the hip - p&s, no composing, nada - but I'll remember that for the next time

Damn, I really didn't think I'd even hit an honorable mention! :D

This was just something I offered up from my several hundred (not-so-good)images
of my abandoned local psych hospital, since the challenge subject grabbed me due
to this being a new interest/hobby of mine.

My humble gratitude for the vote, BBoi.

Aw, cripes, I had to post BEFORE I gave my congrats to PaulB. Congratulations!

You don't have to be a pro photographer to get a good image, all you need is the eye :) - you can have a top camera, and still produce lousy work. Never underestimate an image, leave that to others ;)
