... the official Olympic camera...

Sorry if I'm being obtuse, but what does that mean?

http://en.beijing2008.cn/90/53/column211995390.shtml (external link) nope, not an official company for the Olympics. If you meant by all the canon cameras and lenses taking photos, of course, 1d cameras have been a staple of worldwide sporting events since the 2004 Olympics. You'll see a lot of 1dmkIII with 70-200IS there, as well as 200 f2.0IS, 135L (yes saw one), 16-35L, 24-70L, 35L (saw one of these too, also in gymnastics like the 135L and 200 2.0 ). You may have mistaken it with Shea stadium, where the official camera is Nikon, or the world cup, where it's Canon.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

The Olympics has official sponsors, so some camera mfg might be the official camera/sponsor.
Why would it matter? It's interesting in a way.

Isn't that different? Sure, companies sponsor things for advertising purposes, but what would "the official Olympic DSLR" be?
No other type allowed to be used by accredited photographers?
No other type to be permitted at any venue?
Only that type allowed to carry the Olympic symbol?
Something else?
