really cool looking animal and really cool capture...you might want a tighter crop around him though, I think this one has too much empty space

Seems a touch dark. Also, if it were my shot, I would blur (just a touch) everything except the Oryx to make it stand out a bit more. Lastly, the shadows seem a bit harsh - I would try the early/mid morning or mid/late evening approach next time.

How about something like this for a bit more isolation but maybe I lightened it up a bit too much? What do you think?

Or is something like this a happy medium in regards to light and subject isolation?
Thanks for any advice and recommendations!

In my opinion, I think that animal action shots are best when cropped tight so the focus of the viewer is on the animal and not wandering around the empty background. I would crop it just to the left of the opening in the trees where there is a lot of light coming through.

I would tweak the curves a bit, a slight crop, and induce a motion blur to put more emphasis on the Oryx.

I like both shots as they are. The edits of #1 were just as beautiful, but not better--just different. If they were mine I couldn't choose one over the others.

IMHO, the original has good composition. There's enough background capture to allow the viewer to associate the beast with it's environment. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had a clue about the terrain and habitat this beast resides in.
