Is it me reading too much into this or is the 40d really as awfull as people are making it out to be.Reasoning behind this thought is quite simple really, just look on the EOS thread and all one sees is 40d problems.is this camera a white Elephant or not.I was seriously thinking of upgrading next year to a 40d but have been seriously put off by all the neagtive comments and problems the other forum members are having IS IT REALLY THAT BAD ??????????????

stavros, I have my 40D now for about 6 months and i haven't had a single problem. Yes sometimes there is a problem and that is what is mostly posted here. If people would post all the good things about the 40D i think this forum would get blog down. I yhink it is a very good camera. pos

There have been polls about the 40D. The vast number of responses have been positive. While some clearly have a problem, the 40D isn't a white elephant.

I have a 40D and LOVE it. Everyone I know that has one loves it as well. No problems. I'd go ahead and get it, to be honest. If there is a problem, send it back and get a replacement. But I doubt you'll have a problem.

it's a great camera, but has had some issues, don't let that put you off.
buy it from a reputable outlet, just in case.

I went from an xti to a 40D and at first I felt like I was taking better photos with the xti and I felt like I wasted my money. Then I learned how to use my 40D and it is the best camera that I have owned hands down. I do not even care what they replace it with I am using this beauty until the shutter actually falls apart. The first 40D that I purchased did have a hot pixel issue but I just swapped it out no problem.

I have two Canon 40Ds, they work flawlessly and make sharper, nicer images than my 20D or 30D.

I've had the 40D since it was released and consider it far superior to the 10D and 30D that I've also owned. It's a great camera.

Got a 40D, no problems.
Stavros 1960, have you thought that of the tens of thousands of 40D owners out there, the ONLY ones that post are the ones that are having some sort of problem?

Anyone know anything anywhere anymore?

Is it really THAT much "sharper" and "far superior" to the 30D? I'm just wondering cause I'd like to buy one or the other down the road. Aside from the added features of the 40D, what differences in IQ?

Having used both cameras (2-30d's and 1-40d) the 40D is sharper, faster and a real joy to use. Also, I do event and onsite printing and the jpg's require less post-processing than the 30d jpg's do.

Just sharper really, closer to the 5D sharpness than the 30D.

Yes, it is. Besides just being sharper, the AF is definitely worth the 'far superior' label and that translates directly into more keepers and better image quality.

I'm certainly glad to be reading this. I just ordered a 40D (from an Xt) partly because I like to mess with old manual lenses, and have trouble focusing through the Xt's tiny viewfinder. I'm hoping the 40D, with larger viewfinder and live view, may change some of that.

Roadrunner, my dad recently went from an Xti to a 40D and the first thing he raved about was the viewfinder. I think you'll be happy.
