Bought it used from a member here. First thing I did was put new batteries in it. Placed the switch in position 1 and turned on my XTi. Put camera in auto mode and then pressed the button on the RC1....nothing :( Tried position 2 on RC1 ...nothing. Am I doing something wrong, or not doing something I should (like a camera setting). I could not find anything in the manual for either device. Did I get a dead RC1.....

Are you aiming it at the front of the camera? I think it uses IR not radio.

Alann,

Here's a good link for using the RC-1: http://eosdoc.com/manuals/?q=RC-1 (external link)

You do have to set the XTi to "remote release mode". See page 49 of your XTi manual for instructions on how to put the camera in timer/remote control mode.

Basically, you press the timer/remote button on the back of the XTi, the second button down on the right side of the screen. Then press the left or right arrow key to select the timer/remote icon. Press set and then you're good to go.

I hope this helps.

John
