What should that be?

On the "what to buy next" question, my answer would be: First learn to use what you have....

I doubt your 35-85's an f/1.3. Maybe an f/3.5 or something. If you get rid of the 18-55, like I said before, you'll lose wide angle on the XT. Learn to use what you have, then worry about new stuff.

Doesn't matter, I was just curious as to what part was wrong: The "35-80" or maybe forgot some thing in the "1:3" bit.
Could have been a 35-70 f/3.5-4.5 or 28-70 f/3.5-4.5 or ....

;)

Hoods on eBay

Hoods are a must! There are numerous Chinese knock-offs of the Canon hoods on eBay at a fraction of the OEM price. I use one on my 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens and I don't find any quality difference between this hood and my Canon OEM versions.

Another really needed item is a hot shoe mounted flash. A used 420ex or 550ex can be had at a very reasonable price. Get a Chinese knock-off of the Stofen diffuser for just a few bucks.

Later, you can think of an off-camera sync cord and a flash bracket. However, you will see a greater difference between your pictures with the built-in flash and those with a bounced hotshoe flash using a diffuser than you will see between images from a hotshoe mounted flash with Stofen type diffuser and that flash and diffuser on a flash bracket.

a shoe mounted flash is a flash that sits on top of the camera correct?

Hey guys so basically I have NO accesories ...... tripod.

IMHO, yes, you can do without a remote shutter release by using the timer function when your camera is mounted on a tripod, but it's so much easier to have control. I thoroughly recommend one of these : -

Hahnel Remote Cable release HRN280

Half press to focus, just like the original shutter button, operates continuous shutter release, and has a device to hold the shutter open when using 'bulb' setting.

I also have the Canon RC-1 IR remote release, but I find it a bit fiddly to use sometimes, with the IR receiver located on the front of the camera.

The Hahnel claims to operate every Canon DSLR, I'm not in a position to verify this claim as I only have the 400D (but also have no reason to think it's wrong!), but it does come with a couple of adaptors, very reasonably priced, (£25 in the UK), well made, in my a opinion a good buy.
