canon/nikon mix at olympics... ?

I’ve noticed the influx of Nikon as well. During yesterdays gymnastics there were an awful lot of black lenses and Black and Yellow camera straps. Come on Canon, wake the he## up and get designing, you’re loosing your edge.

Seriously, I am expecting a log coming from Canon this September when the 5D MkII is announced and again in March when the 50D comes out.

All I can say is wow! His gear is prepared for ANYTHING!

I don't mind canon giving me some superteles and one of those vest's to boost up their numbers...

Yeah I don't think Canon will be creating too many new print ads from this Olympics.

They definately aren't anywhere near as dominent as they've proven to be in the past.

Heck, If Canon could swing me a seat, I’ll bring my own big white and 40D and park my big a$$ right up front blocking at least 2 Nikons while displaying proper color. Make the score Canon 36, Nikon 44 at least.

Actually, it surprised me that the penetration was as big as it is. Nikon use to be a one-zee, two-zee and now in that one picture it’s almost 60%. That is a huge swing.

It's a bit of a let down to be honest just how far Canon has dropped the ball as of late. There was that article a little while back that out of 24 Sports Illustrated shooters at the olympics 22 were shooting Nikon and 18 of them were previous Canon shooters. After reading that I stumbled upon this article http://www.sportsshoot​er.com/news/1967 which combined with Rob Galbraith's recent MK3 AF update certainly made Canon's future questionable without a proper MK3 fix or a solid counteract to Nikon's recent push.

Personally, I am riding out the rest of the motorsports season with my Canon gear and will see what comes in the fall/winter from the Canon camps announcement. The problem with being the Alpha dog is you have to consistently fight to maintain Alpha status and Canon hasn't shown any fight in them on the product front or even customer service front as of late.

Nikon has some white teles too.

Best way to tell is to look at the camera straps -- the Nikon guys all have the yellow Nikon on their strap.

Unless Canon will make huge step forward with 1d, new 5d, 50d or whatever in such range, won't make much difference in such photos Sport, especially on pro level such as Olympics, World Championships and World Cups is not shoot with 5d or 40d. And at the moment, Canon's advantage, and even more important, Canon's reputation is gone. Even if they put out 1dmk4, I somehow don't think there will be all that much of hype, after all these problems and their handling of problems with 1dmk3. At least I personally have no idea what to do at the moment. We would need few new cameras here, and I somehow don't feel like saying "yes we go for 1dmk3", because it still doesn't work as it should, and even if 1dmk4 would be out now, I would rather wait month or two first. On the other side, 1dmk2 are non existing, so it's not really perfect time to decide about stuff like this.
On top of that all agencies swopping Canon for Nikon in last few months, will definitely not go through all this in next few years. So pictures are changing, and Nikon will be again dominant player on market... at least on pro PJ and sport shooters market.... not that I would consider this as bad thing

I know, I was thinking more locally, like me. I have several shooting buddies one of which has upgraded to the D300 and I got to admit, it’s a darn nice piece of hardware.

Several of those black and yellow straps say Nicon, I think they are knock-offs.

So you as a working pro are making the claim that Canon have not fixed the 1DmkIII?
