In my one year of photography, I have never once seen a Canon commercial on tv, only Nikon. Does Canon not advertise their DSLR cameras? I mean... whats that Nikon DSLR commercial with Ashton Kutcher? lol.. I guess it wouldn't be the high end class cameras you guys are talking about, but it doesnt seem like Canon is keeping up as far as that goes.

Canon marketing seems to prefer print ads. Pick up a photography magazine.

The last time I saw a Canon DSLR ad was with Andre Agassi.

Maria Sharapova shows up from time to time with her puppy.

Lucky Dog!

Rank amateurs, both! If they were any good, they'd be here of POTN.

I have to say those agencies are just wasting money then, D3 had far more problems at release than the 1dmkiii, and spec wise, it won't be able to compete at all as more firmware updates are introduced and issues are solved for both cameras.

What exactly were all those problems at release then? And how exactly can't it compete? I've had 2 D3's since launch and they haven't missed a beat. The ONLY thing that has occured was one firmware release which potentially gave a bank frame 5/6 frames into a 10+ frame burst. It was acknowledged, pulled and sorted within 3 days. Current buffer not enough? Nikon are offering an upgrade if you need it. When was the last time Canon did that? You've really got to start seeing that competition is a good thing and that a strong Nikon is a benefit for both Canon and Nikon shooters. IF Canon up their game with their next releases you can thank the D3/D700/D300 for that.

Yesterday you were claiming that the D3 can't shoot at 9fps in 14 bit mode and that is utterly wrong.

Seems to me there's some more rubbish being written here....

It did have some issues, particularly with temperature resistance. I'm not sure how widespread they were but it affected my friend and I read about it elsewhere.

The no 9fps at 14 bit is totally wrong though

It was one article and was swiftly countered by the like of Moose Peterson using it at well, well below zero.

Seriously though - the idea that the D3 was riddled with problems at launch is pure fantasy.

I saw more than one article/thread/etc, and I had a friend who suffered from the problem. Not saying it was widespread at all or an easy problem to reproduce (it didn't seem to be a problem with every D3) but it was there. Additionally, even if Moose was not able to reproduce it, that does not mean the problem didn't exist. I haven't read his response (I'm going to look for it) but he may have had samples that didn't exhibit the cold weather problem. For my friend the problem started when using it well below zero but before long the problem was there at temperatures near or above freezing.

My point originally, however, was that I was in agreement with you. The D3 did not have more problems at release like basroil is claiming, but I am saying it wasn't without some issues. Overall though it was and remains a very successful camera release.

I think that any camera is going to have some duff bodies at launch and going forward. I was just taking issue with the suggestion that it was duff per se.
