This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before and After #95".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on Friday, August 15th at 1pm (mountain).

So, what can you do with this?

The "straight out of camera" rule applies to the person posting the original shot.
You can go wild editing it in photoshop or any other program you choose. There's no editing rules as long as you can give us a simple breakdown of what you did.
Have a look at some of the previous Before & After games.

Go for it, it's fun :)

I thought this was a cute picture so I didn't do much to it really. This picture reminded me of my dad doing things my mom wouldn't let us do sometimes and us just following him.

-Cropped
-Cloned out railing
-Enhanced color
-Added border and text.

I was going to skip this one because I'm so busy, but I just thought this picture was a hoot. So I guess I'll play:

1. Tone mapped to improve detail in sky & shadows.
2. Lots of cloning to remove railing in left corner, the white grout line in the stones on the ground, and the pole in the middle.
3. Added 4th leg to little guy standing on wall where pole used to be
4. Copied layer
5. Heavy noise reduction to remove jpg artifacts, especially in sky (ugly result of tone mapping in step 1)
6. Layer mask to restore detail in furry-four legged visitors
7. Softened clouds slightly
8. Worked on stones in lower left corner to make shadows & stone joints look real
9. Added quick border

Was this not a good picture to edit? I'll try to find something better next time.:)

I'm going to declare BitterSweet the winner. I like that you were able to take out the railing. I didn't even want to attempt that! (btw...I think your family was a lot like mine!)

Kirby - very funny caption. Silver - great job making that post disappear.

Just for kicks...here's what I did to the picture. I already had a photo of the big guy on the wall so I cropped him out then tried to bring that corner out of the shadows.

Congrats Tracey - I thought the picture was wonderful!! I always like to see what you & Kyle come up with. ... Guess he's been too busy lately :(.

I also am surprised more people didn't play. ... Maybe everyone is busy watching the Olympics??

Look forward to the next one.

I had such a cool idea for this pic, but simply didn't get around to it... I wanted to have a lady in a chair knitting a sweater from the wool off the goats :-)
The last few days just turned out to be a little crazy!

Ahh! This would have been a GREAT photo to work on. I just spent all week completing my move to Philly, so I missed the past events :(

Love the captions, Tracey!
