Ok, I'm somewhat new to the whole off camera lighting thing. I need help in a major way.

I want to setup a studio strobe to increase room light at a wedding reception (specifically, an AB800 on a stand).

I shoot a 5D with a Q5D-R and a D-adaptor from Quantum. Obviously, the D adaptor sits in the hot shoe and connects to the flash unit.
What is the best way to get the AB800 to fire, and how do I get it NOT to interfere with my Q-TTL exposure setting on the flash?
Am I just totally off base or can I just not envision how this will work?

Optical slave? Few down sides though. One, it could be triggered by peoples P&S cameras. Two, the optical slave my not see your flash (depending where you are in relation to it.)

Not an expert on this by any means, but it may be possible to attach a radio trigger to the flash sync port on the side of your camera? If possible it would be very akward to move around with.

I can see that you're a very patient person. You waited an excruciatingly painful 30 minutes before posting another plea for help. ;) :)

The only way you can keep the AB from interfering with your Qflash is to trigger the AB strobe with RF remote units with the transmitter connected to the PC port of the camera. OK, a PC sync cord can be used, too, but may not be practical. If the AB strobe is set to optical trigger mode, the preflash from the Qflash is going to set it off and mess up the ETTL exposure.

I am not 100% positive I understand your setup. Do you want to have both QFlash and AB800 fired at the same time? Or you want only AB800 fired without taking off the QFlash?
Regardless, Haru is right, get a pair of pocket wizards (or equivelent) and hook one to the pc connector to fire the Bee (you need purchase the right cable). In the former case, you need to understand if your Q is in TTL or Auto mode the light from B will be automatically counted in.

Connect a Pocket Wizard to your camera's PC port and another PW on the B800. That leaves your hotshoe available for whatever you want to put there. If you fire the B800 optically, it will fire with EVERYONE'S flash. You might have issues if you shoot with ETTL though.

I have shot QFlash with strobes (different Brand but it shouldn't matter) in Auto mode (I never liked Q-TTL mode for some reason), no problem, it sensed the existence of the strobes.

I can't wait to try it, and thanks for your replies...
BTW, what are these "ebay triggers" people always talk about? Are they just a random cheap PW takeoff, or is there an actual trigger that people are referring to?
