Some of the finer details from the Concours d'Elegance on August 3.

Very nice shots!

Many thanks for the compliment.
I was feeling a bit out of place in here with my sub-standard S3iS, but after learning a few of the finer points of post-processing, I'm feeling a bit more confident.

Over at the S5/S3 users' forum, someone actually commented that a few of these look like they're from a DSLR. While I disagree, it's still an ego-stroker. :D

I like the capture of these finer details. Not too many people will focus on these items (that I have seen).

Good IQ - the S3s are nice P&Ss

Canon 1Ds Mii & Canon 5D (main) 20D (backup)
Canon 580 EX II / 580 EX / 430EX Speedlite / ST-E2 Transmitter
Lenses: 18-55 (kit) // 50 f/1.8 // 16-35mm f/2.8L II // 24-105mm f/4L
Sigma: 70-200 f/2.8 // 24-70 f/2.8

Thank you. I'm very pleased overall with these shots. I actually focused my attention on the smaller details during the day's event, and I'm quite pleased with my results.

And it's true that the S3/S5 are great P&S cameras. I have yet to master macro shots,
but I've largely given up on that venue. They deceive me every time. I stay with 'normal' shots for now, as well as dabbling in infrared from time to time.

When you can stay late, try some in this light:
A few Car Lighting Tips - Updated

I found some good light at 13 & Woodward last night. And, don't wait for the "Official" Dream Cruise to start on the weekend. It's been going on for over a week already!
(Not these shots, but the possibilities are endless!)
Warming up for the Dream Cruise.

DSLR could have less DOF. It was needed for shots 1 & 4 to blow out the background.

Not sure how you can tell what is from a DSLR/non. I have a shot of my daughter sitting here at my desk from my SD550. Looks just like something I could have shot with the 20D/40D.

Understood, but simple enough to determine from EXIF data. I've found DSLRs to also give far less noise with high-ISO captures. These were all taken @ 80-100 ISO; varied shutter speeds, F-5.6. Unfortunately, my S3 just doesn't provide accurate EXIF data.

More reasons for my wanting a DSLR. :D
