New territory for me photographically, being more of a nature photo kind of guy. I went to the local Fabulous Fords car show this past Saturday and attempted to create (through framing and PP) some "artsy" car photos. The noon sun was quite harsh so I concentrated more on bits and pieces of cars. The following 6 photos turned out the best. All manner of critique would be appreciated.

1. Ford Torino Cobra - featuring a 428 Super Cobra Jet motor. A great classic muscle car. Gaussian Blur to the hilt on this one...

2.Classic Ford Crown Victoria Continental kit.

3. Classic Ford Fairlane 500 - That's me and my 8 yr old son in the corner of the bumper.

4. Crown Victoria Emblem & Trim

5.Right Eye of Classic Ford Crown Victoria

6. Dual-Quad 427 Big Block Motor

Thanks for viewing.

love the first one too.. Awesome DOF in the first one. The reflection in the second one (reflection in the wheel) is a little distracting, maybe, but it's an awesome shot. just my 2 cents.

Thank you all for your comments/critique. I am glad to know that one of my images is "skookum", although I'm not sure I know what that means.:)

Any further critique would still be desired as I am seriously trying to improve.

Thanks
Mark

the word can have meanings from "'good,' to 'strong,' 'best,' 'powerful,' 'ultimate' and 'first rate.'

Very Canadian;)

I didn't know what skookum means either but figured if it didn't mean excellent, terrific, or very nice I was going to ignore it. Excellent group of images.

The first one's massive gaussian blur is a bit distracting to me, but I really like the others.

Thanks for the lesson in Canadian jargon Flo (and for the kind comments as well). I'm going to use that skookum term on some of my associates and see what kind of reaction I get.:)

Titus, much appreciated.

'Sup lulugus!? Thank you for viewing and for the comments. One of the reasons I brought in the Gaussian was due to a very distracting background with lots of uncomplimentary elements. This led to experimentation with different amounts of blur, but the background was still quite distracting. About that time, my 8-year-old walked by and said; "Dad, whatcha doin'?". I told him I was playing with blurring the background which he thought was way cool - which led to him saying "blur it some more Dad - blur it even more!". He really liked how it made areas of glowing color around the car and I decided that I did as well, being a grand improvement over the original nasty background. It seemed to set the car off well after final sharpening - so I went with it although it made it more like some kind of attempted magazine art than a car show picture. Now my son wants me to blur everything! (I promise I won't) ;)

Regards
Mark

I'm not super-crazy about the blur either, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to save a shot.

The Fairlane shot is awesome, I really like the way you composed it.

Thanks for the comments, lhoney2. I wanted to take that Fairlane home with me. It was sweet. And now I find that I didn't get a shot of the whole car. Grrrrrrrr...
