Thanks Robert! I was in the mood for some PIT shots today, but my subject was not. On the way out, we saw this door and he couldn't resist.

How big was he/she? Almost looks more like a tri-color than a green heron. Neck also looks long for a green.

Thank you all for the comments on the morning glory. The bee was sheer luck, fluttered in and out while I was shooting.:D

"slutwear" may be a bit harsh, but even a trip to the young girl's section in the local W@lm@rt shows a very limited selection of attire that is not provocative. The social aspects of clothing in popular culture was always a favorite topic of my students. It starts when they are just tiny kids, so yes-- parents are buying it for them. Of course, there isn't much else available.
As for Sr Portraits, I've seen sitting fees in the hundreds and packages in the thousands.

A few years back I would go to a night Adult School B&W film photography class at one of the local high schools. Anyhow, my route took me past San Diego State University during sorority rush week. I was amazed at the outfits some of the sorority pledges were wearing. They were dressed very much like the streetwalkers that hang out a few blocks from the university...

I have never entered anything at the fair. I really don't get this:

1. No exhibitors permitted to show more that one picture in any one class.
2. pictures may be black adn white or colored.
3. Articles previously entered are not eligible.
4. Must be mounted on cardboard, matted &/or framed.

Definition of "Professional Photographer:
a. If the photographer accepts commissions for profit.
b. If the photographer's works are reproduced commercially for profit.
c. If the photographer teaches photography.
d. if the photographer is in business and has a shop where he sells his work and/or has a license to be in business.

Ok lets break this down and you guy correct me each and everytime I am wrong and explain what I really don't understand.

1. I get this
2. Self explanatory
3. Again self explanatory
4. Well Duh

a. so since I have been paid for work I can't enter?
b. no applicable
c. does this mean since I taught Pam & Eric (and a few others) something I can't enter?
d. I don't have a shop or BL so I'm ok here.

Tell a story - I get that but how does a flower, portrait tell a story?
General appearance - I don't get this one
Quality of workmanship - sharp well composed etc?
Originality - I can do that (I think)
Correctly classified - for the love why in the world would you get points for following instructions

Landscape/Seascape - don't have one

Animal/Bird - Mine all suck again - is a spider or butterfly count? What about a lady bug (those all suck too)
Humorous - Explain

Why no CARS?

Ok any calrification or suggestions from what you have seen me post would be great.

This move has actually been in the making for 4 years  since I took the position I currently have. Things just conspired to keep us locked in Coquille.
Certain events of recent have given us the opportunity to finally move back home (tis a whole hour away, lol) so we are going for it :) It will probably be the end of September or so before we are actually relocated, I am just trying to take advantage of spare moments to clear crap

Adam is doing well, thank you for asking :D He is doing PT three times a week and is tired of it, lol. He walks quite a bit without crutches (tho not supposed to be doing that quite yet ) and is trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life as he will be able to be retrained for a new career.

On another note, I shall be processing stuff later :) I have more waterfalls and such.

Wow, all this hard labour is hard on the office type I have become in the last few years. Tomorrow will be another day full of hard work too, getting my garage cleared out. We will be pulling up my drive, and taking out the garage floor first. We have a big slope up the the garage, and it is surrounded on all sides by foundation wall, so there is no reason not to drop the floor by 2' and get a high ceiling in it.

I love to make some of those huge Texas dollars. :p
As mentioned above, it might be some time before I get mine done, customers have a habit of using my resources a lot of the time.

I'll start.
Portraits done for the Sr year of high school. THey've been around a while :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senior_portraits (external link) but have gotten to be a big business the past years. I know Sr portrait photogs who charge as much as a wedding.

THe girls portraits have become more and more. . . um. . . "adult" with the current generations, but then, the new gen's moms have been buying them slutwear since they were kindergarteners.

This month's Rangefnder is dedicated to Sr Portraits.

We don't do senior shots around here that I know of, just the school shots.

Last sumer I saw a very young girl (no more than 10 years old) wearing a tee shirt with the words "Porn Star" written on the front. Aparently it is a brand name. The girl was with her family, what her parents were thinking....

It really bugs me too that girls, not even yet young women, dress slutty. It just looks wrong. I am so glad my daughters never dressed and did makeup like that.

And great to hear that Adam is progressing well. :D

Fairs are a tough call on their definitions of what is a pro and what isn't...but under the strictest interpretations...you probably fall into the pro category. Sales of anything to a commercial venue such as a magazine pretty much seals your fate. Do they have a pro division or just lock them out completely?
