Oh I am NOT above speaking to a child... Dan (Woolburr) and I were out shooting in Cataloochee in the Great Smoky National Forest.... there was this boy that first asked to use Dan's camera (UM NO!) and then asked to use mine and was being VERY loud and we were rather close to the elk... and I was not above telling this young man (7 or 8 years old!) that he needed to be quiet because the elk was wild and those horns might hurt us if he was too loud and scared it... the grandmother was off behind me totally ignoring the boy..... I have been known to block an escalator so that a child who was running UP the down escalator had to turn around and go down... and once at the bottom, in the presense of his mother I said to him that THIS escalator was to go down, and he shouldn't play on them.... I'm rather forward with young children, and only one parent has said anything to me....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

In the 19 years I have worked at the Zoo, I have had several parents tell me to let them discipline their children. One dad was a real A** and I finally told him that I am there to make sure that the animals stay safe and if that means I have to tell your son not to do something, then I will. This child started to climb over the railing to play with some of our primates, then decided he wanted to poke the monkey with a stick when it would not come over, and last but not least, started to share his unicorn lollipop with him. For the most part, I try to tell the parents that something is not allowed, since we have received complaints about employees approaching children (keep in mind that we are in a uniform with a Zoo patch and name tags on).

Oh I understand completely and I'm surprised I haven't been confronted by parents more often...... But I understand the predicament you are in.... but you got your own 'babies' to take care of... little brats be gone... and of course if you didn't say anything to the railing climber and he/she got hurt you'd better bet those SAME parents who didn't want you discipline their child would also be ticked that you didn't keep their child from getting hurt....  At times ya can't win for losing!

I'm gonna post these, then be scarce for a bit. I gotta do some other stuff.

Lovely bar scene:

So, why aren't the bulls all sharing a table? I thought they were friends.

I've gotten into the habit of looking for "hidden Permie's" in these photoons. Didn't find any this time, though...
