In the 19 years I have worked at the Zoo, I have had several parents tell me to let them discipline their children. One dad was a real A** and I finally told him that I am there to make sure that the animals stay safe and if that means I have to tell your son not to do something, then I will. This child started to climb over the railing to play with some of our primates, then decided he wanted to poke the monkey with a stick when it would not come over, and last but not least, started to share his unicorn lollipop with him. For the most part, I try to tell the parents that something is not allowed, since we have received complaints about employees approaching children (keep in mind that we are in a uniform with a Zoo patch and name tags on).

Parents never cease to amaze me. Once we were at the zoo and this nightmare child w as throwing rocks and the animals...his parents were letting him. I was so mad. I told him to knock it off and proceeded to tell his parents that if they didn't control their child I was going to look for the nearest keeper and have them all removed from the zoo. The dad said "that's it, we're going home if you don't control that child" to the mom. And suddenly I knew what the problem was...someone was willing to beget the child but not parent.

A couple off topic things:

Joshua is a FANTASTIC racquetball partner. Really. He rocks.

Marian has a job and school (which includes college classes and lots of homework) so we deleted her chores (and her allowance).
That means I have to do the dishes now.
I haven't done dishes in 2 years.

Sheesh. I can do the them, I just have to get back in the groove. I don't wanna.

wait til they.....

puddlepirate44 wrote in post #6276419 (external link)
Just wait until they move out. Then you realize that ALL the chores still need to be done. :(

^^^ that. And I'll never forget when we split up the kids's chores...I ended up with everything except the garbage and the cat box. It seemed fair

cfpackerfan wrote in post #6276444 (external link)
Yeah... but there will be fewer chores.

Just imagine.

She's a baby. That's a given!
Speaking of which... Kitteh has been mostly silent with only an occasional MRAWWW howl today. I think my baby is growing up! *sheds a tear*

Maybe I'll be able to get a full night's/day's sleep again before I die.

I think she's part siamese...seriously there was one running around my MIL's house. She'll probably always be vocal Lonnie.

Nope never.

Dang. My left elbow just took off to the store to get some ice cream without asking.

1. It's just waaay too late for an unescorted elbow to be out and about, especially on a school night.

2. It never asked if I wanted anything. I mean, how rude.

Does this happen to anyone else, or is my elbow just totally out of control?

you need to teach it to bring back ice cream for both of us!

Well, now that I'm caught up, I'm going back to bed. G'night kids.

Hmmm it is sort of common here. Probably a little bit country. "come set with me a bit"

We went to Belize a few times and I was fascinated by the multitudes of insects. At night between the frogs and bugs the noise was incredible. The leaf cutters are called Wewe ants down there. They literally clear little paths where they walk. Tiny little paths beat down to nothing but dirt.

When I was in Costa Rica, we came across a colony of leaf cutter ants. We followed them to the bush they were harvesting. It was almost bare. We then tried following them to see if we could find their burrow, but lost the trail in the jungle.

This is from the colony they used to have at the Wild Animal Park until the Queen died.

Amikah is SO going to cost me vet bills some day.

We were outside playing, and I threw the ball for her. She is SO focused on the ball, that she can't think of anything else.

I threw the ball in a direction she wasn't expecting, and she ran into the tree. HARD. She bounced off it, fell on the ground and just cried.

Geez. Stop my heart.

She got up and couldn't walk, was limping bad.

I went (ran) to her, felt her all over to see where she hurt, and while I was trying to see if she was seriously hurt, she limped over to the ball, picked it up and gave it to me. Then limped/ran like she was ready to catch it.

I told her no, and that we were done playing. Geez.

She's fine now, barely limping at all... but I think she's going to be sore tomorrow.

Buddy collides with the coffee table at least once a night while chasing his toy and it doesn't seem to faze him at all. Speaking of which, we gave him a new one tonight and it took him all of five minutes to de-squeak it...

puddlepirate44 wrote in post #6276415 (external link)
:D I was hoping someone would catch that. It's hard to write in Steroid Addled Austrian.

Hi John. How goes it?

Fine. Relatively quiet day today. I had to do some work on the back security door on the house because it keeps getting out of alignment. The frame is made in three pieces and the door shifts enough so it won't latch properly. I hope I got it this time. I shimmed it with some blocks of wood.

When you've re-learned, get over here. I have a few dishes that need some cleaning.

I have a dishwasher. But I'm hesitant to use it after it melted and deformed a few things.

We have a good dishwasher. It hasn't destroyed anything yet...

Hang on.

I've NEVER in my entire life, seen those words uttered together. EVER.

WOW.

I was a little concerned when Heather and I moved into one of the rental units in the back. It turned out her mother was not the bother I was afraid she might be when we moved in.

I don't think I ever told the story of the female Siamese cat a former roommate of our had. He'd trained her to play with rubber bands and when Heather moved in, the cat discovered her terrycloth-covered ponytail elastics. She'd pick them up, carry them into the kitchen and drop them in her water bowl. When they were fully soaked, she'd take them out into the living room, hook them with a claw and fling them like a Frisbee. It was pretty startling to get hit with one while watching television...

You know what sucks?

I play racquetball for 2 hours, 3+ times a week.
I don't eat sweets.
I try to steer clear from fatty foods (no doughnuts, etc)

I'm a big girl. *sigh* I just have to deal with that. I try. I do.

BUT

When we go to the lake with my 'buck-o-five' friend, and our 95 pounder friend, both of their childless selves in their smokin hot bikinis... and me in my tank top and men's board shorts... well.

It sucks. :(

I lived with a purebred Siamese for many years. Remington made it to the ripe old age of 19. She died two months later after that birthday.

I adopted Remington when she was seven. She was the absolutely most difficult cat I ever knew (and I'm including Kitteh, here -- Kitteh is tame by comparison). But, in the nearly 11 years I shared a home with Remington, I don't think I ever once heard her meow. She quacked. Seriously! That cat quacked like a duck...

I've shared a home with many cats, but I've never heard one anywhere near as vocal as Kitteh. This is one LOUD (consistently and constantly loud) kitty!

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

Sorry, don't know what came over me.

I was trying to figure out why I was feeling just a little 'off' at the lake the other day. And that's why.

*sigh*

I'll stop though... sorry. Change of subject. ;)
