My second email below tells the story.

"Before I went on holiday I set up autoresponder. While I was away some Knucklehead at Apple decided to "upgrade" customer accounts from.Mac to mobile me. Did he think to tell the customers about this? Well he certainly didn't tell me.

I expect this sort of lousy treatment from Microsoft not from Apple.
I am VERY VERY Disappointed.

How do I turn off the autoresponder and how the heck do i access my account etc?

This is my second email, no one bothered to reply to the last one so I wonder if this will be any different.

Bill "

I think all you need to do is go to www.me.com (external link) and log in there to modify the settings. You can use your @mac.com or your new me.com address and password there.

I looked back and I got an email warning me of the change 2 months ago which I had forgotten about. It said nothing about my old login not working or being presented with a new page asking for a password I had not set up for that login page.

Ah well at least they responded promptly to my second email and it's sorted now.

Thanks for responding guys.

I had zero issues switching over to mobile.me and i'm still on tiger. They informed me and honestly I love the changes and added features. Sorry your not having as much luck. Let me know if I can answer any specific problems.

To add to that I'm pretty sure they just gave us another free 60 days of service. apple really does like to please their customers.
