If you're getting the XSi from a reputable dealer at that price jump on it. Spot metering and better autofocus are worth the $100 alone imo. On top of that you're also getting a camera with better ergonomics, a nicer screen, a higher burst rate and buffer, live view, a sensor cleaning system, a better viewfinder, better controls(ISO button at least), and probably more.

I was trying out the xsi at Costco today and I noticed that the shutter/mirror noise was unusually loud. Is that standard on this camera? I tried the Nikon D90 and it was quieter.
