When saving a RAW file, what is the best file type for printing, and for posting on the web?
For printing is a .tiff the best way to preserve the image or is there something better
For web use or to use on a website, is .jpeg the best or is there better?
thanks in advance

Jpeg for web. Medium quality (Level 7-9 in Photoshop) is pretty good.

Tiff is overkill for printing, high-quality jpeg (9-12) is fine. Some labs might not accept anything other than jpeg.

Hell yes. Your working files - that is, the ones which you are editing and saving frequently, and ultimately archiving, should be in a non-destructive, non-compressed file format - that is, tif or psd. I mostly use PSD myself, but it doesn't matter a great deal. Either format can support layers, alpha channels, high-bit, etc etc.

Once you've edited to your satisfaction, and saved, then you can make copies of the master file, flatten them, and save them as jpegs for output eg print or web.
