Yes indeed Roger. That is a beautiful shot.

Nice shot Roger! I am really excited about getting over to Yosemite in the winter. It's been a long time since I've been there during the winter.

I'm even more excited since my wife came home last night with a big grin on her face and a package. She hands me the package, says "Happy Birthday"! I opened it and almost dropped it on the floor. It's a brand new 5D MK-II !!! Apparently she saw me reading some of the 5D-II threads and decided that I needed upgrade my 5D. She managed to get one at the local Best Buy, and even got them to honor a 10% off coupon she'd printed from one of the POTN Marketplace threads. I am completely in awe of this woman!

Yosemite will be a great place to take the 5D-II. Whoohooo!

Tim buddy, your wife bought you a 5DMII? I'm thinking you married wayyyyy up pal! ;-)a

Anyway congrats! (On the wife and the camera!)

I'll tease you with another Yosemite shot from last weekend. (I'm still working on the sky in this one.)

Wow, very nice tease! I just signed up for a Photoshop class, so hopefully I'll learn how to to improve some of my shots in the future.

I really liked my 5D classic. The only gripe I had was that is was slow compared to my 40D, but I would not have upgraded to the 5DMkII myself. I didn't feel the need for more megapixels or video. But, my old eyes do love the improved LCD display, focusing with the 10x live view, the ISO in the viewfinder, and the larger display on the top of the camera.

Yes, I certainly did marry way up. She is an amazing person.

Yosemite is a bit far away for a quick late afternoon photo outing, but here's a quick upload from something closer to home. Taken 45 minutes after sunset last night, 1/4 second, ISO 1600, 24-105 lens at f/4 & 32mm. No processing other than being resized for web.

Tim,
Where is that spot? Baker Beach?

Very nice shot!

Or is it from the Marin side?

And yes I agree. Very nice shot. :)

Yes, that's Fort Baker on east side of the marina. Just follow this dirt road off the end of the far parking lot and climb up this small dirt hill by the Yacht Club. There's a pretty good view of Alcatraz, the East Bay and San Francisco there too.

This time of year the sun sets about as far toward the South as it's going to. I plan to come back in the summer when it is setting as far to the North as possible, and see if I can catch the sunset light reflecting off the towers. If nothing else, in 6 months it'll be fun to see if I've learned anything about using this camera.
