Dude...when you get back we have to have lunch or whatever...maybe plan a nice safe visit to go shooting stuff that, well, typically doesn't shoot back!! ;)

Stay safe, and seriously if there are things you might need drop a note and we'll see what can be done to help get ya some goodies and send a care package or twenty to share with everyone. :D

I have got it!!! You can take up a collection to send a care package full of L's. I promise, I will share them with everyone!

Yeah, when I get back I want to get together with Y'all and do some shooting, with cameras of course.

Dazzle, there have been OC/SD meetings in the past. The way it works is that you have to be willing to organize it, but it if you want it, that's the price you have to pay. :-)
Joe, how many days left?

Of course this falls in the time I'll be in Maui. Uhm, not that I mind being in Maui. ;)

If you're going to do a nature-shoot during that time, have y'all been to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center?

Last time I was there, I came face-to-face with a group of about 8 deer hanging out with about 5-10 wild turkeys, and this was within a quarter mile of the parking lot. Unfortunately I had crap for equipment and only managed to get some yucky snapshots, but I'd highly recommend the area!

As of today I am sitting at 149 left (if I dont get extended or anything like that) If all goes well I should be back there some time mid to late Jan. I need to hurry up and get back. There is nothing, and I mean nothing to shoot over here. My poor camera feels so neglected. (Plus I am too freakin busy to shoot)

Figured we should come up with some things to do when people are here so we can (pretend) to be organized. If folks have any particular types of things they'd like to let me know and I'll make sure to get them included.

Museums - We've got museums all over the place, the best being the Railway museum, Aerospace museum, and Discovery museum. Crocker art gallery too, they have an American pop art exhibit running at the moment.

Zoos - The two most notable are Sacramento and Folsom. Sac zoo is OK, small but they make good use of their space. Folsom zoo is smaller and specializes in rescued animals. Little model train thing right near it which the kids love to ride. The guy that runs it used to be a photographer and consequently insists on explaining the concept of fill flash to everyone with a camera.

The river. Well rivers, American and Sacramento, consequently lots of ducks and more exciting animals. A trip to Coloma (and gold discovery park) is also pretty easy if we want rivers and hills (and another nice museum).

Parks. Lots of them. Effie Yeaw that was mentioned earlier is one of the best for seeing wildlife. Turkeys and deer lining up to have photos taken.

If we head a little further out we could head down the delta, hit a couple of ferries, stop in Rio Vista for food (great bakery), detour through the windfarms, and then hit the Western Railway Museum for some electric train action. Finally, a tour of Jelly Belly or the Buddweiser brewery and back to Sac.

Food. Umm, lots, we'd need to figure out what particular genre folks would be into.

So, that should get it all started. What do you folks want to do?

Oh, and I forgot, we'll have plenty of time to discuss the 'crop factor', and why us 40D owners may as well just throw them in recycling. :)

Lastly, anyone who thinks they may be making it up here got photos in POTN book 2? Thought I may get a silver sharpie and get folks to sign theirs.

Well, I'm consumed at the time of this event so I'm not trying to change anything but my experience is that people are much more interested in meeting each other and chatting than worrying about photo-ops. I'd concentrate on just getting people together without worrying about keeping them occupied. Those who like sightseeing will find stuff to look at. But again, most like to sit around with a cool one and chat (and shoot hummingbirds.)
