So taking a 5 min break from sorting 6 teams...quick road trip to the Chicago area. All shot with the Mark IIn - 300 2.8 IS - and some convertor (well almost all). Would love to say I just wish the season would keep going but honestly a bit burnt out and need an extended break, talked with a few players today who are just counting down the days. One was happy he got promoted just because the season is a week shorter at the higher level than the lower. C&C welcome...rip away.

Dennis - I may be burnt out by the time the UA game comes about!!

# 1 - Sat on a nice pile of black dirt at the end of the dugout to shoot the game from this side of the field.

#2 - This catcher is a walking photo waiting to happen, what's known as a ripper in that he rips his mask off a ton so you get face. He went back behind home about 5 times chasing down foul balls, impossible not to get an action shot of him like this.

#3 - OK, I lied - this was shot with the 70-200 2.8 IS...was shooting the 3rd baseman and was a little too close so grabbed the 20D which had the before mentioned lens on and this happened. He bobbled it and didn't get an out, the shortstop so not that tight with the 70-200 and had to crop a bit.

#4 - One of the sweetest swings in all of baseball...shooting into the sun and got this one going opp. field - everyone has seen the shot of him pulling the ball and the "pose".

#5 - Soo...you went to a Sox game and didn't get a pic of the kid smiling, how? It's impossible to not get one!! In between innings joking with a teammate.

#6 - This would be the backest of the back to back to back to back home runs, yup four in a row spread out between two pitchers. Three on four pitches I think? Didn't even have time to see thehighlights the next day as after flying out, shooting this game, and then the game below, up for 24 straight hours I just slept!

#7 - IT WENT RIGHT THERE!! Argument about a close hit down the line over third. The umpire walked away laughing and smiling after the coach said something to end it, a joke I assume as it looked friendly. They seemed to know each other well.

#8 - VERY harsh light tonight...both pitchers were lefties of course, top prospect pitches tomorrow, of course! I don't think I'll be there and head the other direction. This kids havin a good year though.

Mike,

I was wondering if you'd be posting from your "road trip". Nice work.

Yeah, Griffey's not really a kid any more, but it still sounds right to call him "the kid".

I know what you mean about burnout. I haven't even shot as many baseball games as you (maybe 75 or so including youth stuff and the Big Guys), nor traveled anywhere near as much, but I'm ready for some football!

See ya tomorrow at the best ballpark on the planet. You start working on next January's New Years Eve classic at Wrigley yet? The guy I shoot the Blackhawks for will certainly cover that game, so I'm gonna have to find another way to get rink side.

Looks good Mike. I agree with you about being a little "burnt out" and I know Jerry is too! One more day on the swing through Florida and then back to Chicago. It's been a good trip though, the weather has been great, not too hot. I'll try to get some of my shots up soon. Have a good time at Wrigley tomorrow, you too Dennis.

The day we stop callin him "the kid" I'll officially be old, so let's keep that going until he gets into the HOF at least :) Or maybe after JR. JR. gets playing.

At this point of the season it's tough to keep going, usually I'm getting ready to start coaching on Monday so it gives new life, but not this season. Had three offers this week but due to problems haven't accepted any yet and who knows if they'll be there by Monday.

Hockey and football is a welcome change though, would love to shoot the winter classic but don't see that happening unless someone comes calling to fly me back here.

You're doing the trip I've wanted to do for a few years, double up games every day for a week or two in the GCL/FSL. It'd be like Spring Training all over again, getting there at 9am and not getting back to the hotel until 10pm. Of course soon as the trip ended I'd be sleeping for 2-3 days straight! I think most the baseball world in the minors is burning out, unlike players/coaches who get to ride buses and stay 3-5 days in one city we change every day and are driving ourselfs, and instead of going out to dinner after the game it's a quick bite and on the computer to get uploading.

Wrigley is one of the best places to shoot, and this being a high school all-american game should make it that much funner. You know the kids will be in awe on that field for a few mins at least.
