Hi, searched, didnt find. I just got my beautiful 40D yesterday, still figuring it out. From the start, I noticed in the LCD that often on start up and shut down, it states "sensor clean". Is this normal right out of the box? It is brand new from Amazon.com.

Thanks!

Yep, it does because I want it to! Why wouldnt you want it to sensor clean all the time?

The 40D sensor clean works well. I recommend you leave it on the current setting.

It isn't often, it will do it every time unless you turn it off in the menu but like others have said I would recommend you leave it on.

Also a sensor clean can be forced through the menu.

Ummmm...its fine, and I guess its a great tool to have, but since I never observed such a thing on my 20D, I was curious if it was a glitch or something, considering that it was brand new when it cleaned itself.....

Oh, thanks........can you tell me what page it tells me that it sensor cleans right out of the box, as my original post states? Let me read the Spanish manual too...maybe I missed something.

I was concerned that since it cleaned itself RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, and every time since, that there was a potential problem.

Wait...it states on page 127 of the Russian manual
Датчик чистой

Got it....nevermind.....

It says in the manual that there is the option to turn it off, so logic dictates that it is on by default.

CSI, it's a default setting to clean your sensor whenever you turn the camera on or off. The fact that it's right out of the box is irrelevant. It doesn't clean when it's dirty. It cleans when you turn the power on or off. That's it.

That's what I want in the next 5D! The ability to wetclean itself if x amount of dust is detected.

The 20d hasn't got sensor cleaning, the 40d is the first in the xxD series to have sensor cleaning
