last picture would look better if the sun was on the left side of the car rather than the right. obviously we cannot move the sun but we can move the object ;).

My thought, too.
MOVE YOUR FEET! A <rant> of sorts.

And re #2, but keep in mind that our eyes are drawn to the brighter parts of the shot. And those bright areas tend to make the dark car look even darker. Take a look at POST #30 near the bottom: The gray bar at the center is the same density all the way across.

I just thought that since I was shooting around 5 with the harsh light that it might not be good to shoot the other side

I wasn't saying that #2 was a bad shoot. just that you should be aware of how the elements of the image are working together/against each other.

I just thought...

Good to do, but carry it a step farther. Shoot it both ways & see what looks better to you? Film is cheap. ;)
