I bought a 430ex from a guy who used it on the drag racing scene for about a year. It's in excellent physical shape, and works great, but it makes a constant faint whine, like it does when it's charging. My other 430 does not make this noise constantly, but only when charging.
Any clues what this might indicate?

Put new batteries in. If it persists you could have it serviced I guess, not sure it'd help though.

Thanks. It had some Alkaline batteries in it and I replaced them with some fresh NiMh, and it's gone. Should have tried that first. Thanks a bunch!

Easy huh :)

Tims troubleshooting steps:
- Is it plugged in?
- Are you sure it's plugged in?
- Is it plugged into EVERYTHING it needs to be plugged in to?
- If it doesn't plug in to power does it have fresh batteries?
- Is it plugged in?
- Is everything in the default position/setting?
- Is it plugged in? Does it have fresh batteries?

That's it ;)

You forgot:
- Are the batteries in their correct position?
