Hey everyone,
I saw some similar posts but they were unclear. So.... when I set the custom white balance per canon's manual, using a white card or grey card, I get a very yellow image ( which is useless to me ). Is this just the way it is for my new 40D?

No. There has to be something else going on. It should not be off-color at all.

Two things to check. First, are you doing all 3 steps to get the Custom WB set? (Take the reference picture, select the reference picture as your Custom WB reference, and turn on Custom WB)?

Second, do you have WB Shift set?

Was the pic taken close to sunset. That is what it looks like to me. If so, then your color is correct since that is what white looks like at sunset. See how yellow the light is in this photo? It was taken near sunset and that is how the light looks at that time of day. Also make sure that the photo you take for the white balance reference is properly exposed.

Yes, the photo was taken near sunset, however I get the same result at any time of day and even with studio lighting.
Thanks for the help

Show us the studio shots?

And you're really sure it's all set right?

I'm confused, because I don't see what you're complaining about. The second photo looks just fine to me. The house looks very white.

The first one is cool white while the second is warm white.

isnt the first image white enough to not need the CWB? or are you trying to achieve something else?

Are we looking at the same pictures? The one on the left/top is definitely warmer than the one on the right/bottom. (Left/right or top/bottom depends on whether you have enough screen width to show them side by side or not.)

I am seeing them side by side. Cool on the left and warm on the right. I don't guess it really matters since it is obvious which is cool and which is warm. At least it is on my calibrated monitor.

Here are 2 images I took today at Noon. AWB (cool tones) and CWB (warm tones). The warm, or yellow, image doesn't necessarily look bad, It's just that the colors are not accurate as I would expect using the custom white balance feature would do. It doesn't seem that there should be a yellow cast to the image.
Does anyone else have similar results??
Also I am certain the settings are correct.
