Do you aim anywhere in this picture when getting the sample to set the white balance, or do you aim at some white or gray card?
If the latter, you have understood that it's vital the illumination of the card is the same as of the subject?

apersson850 Obviously it's a good thing More info | Try taking a picture where you use something you think should be white, that's actually inside the frame, for reference. Don't use any external gray card. Sometimes they aren't neutrally gray, so they can cause a tint on the image, if you use them as a reference. Anders

Sorry, they're gone during all of my testing but I have been using a gray card in the center of the image.

Is the white/gray card you're shooting to set the custom WB lit by the light source hitting the subject? If you're taking a picture of the white/gray card in the shade while the house is in sunlight then the custom WB will be off.
