I do not believe it does have curves. There is no option in the adjustments for curves so I'm thinking it doesn't. I don't process on my laptop so I couldn't really say if E6 would satisfy or not.

It has an adjustment called "color curves" I don't believe that it's as full featured as the curves in PS. I use Lightroom 2 along with Elements 6 and together they do all that I need. The one thing I added to Elements 6 is the Layer Mask feature.

No, lightroom is a one size fits all program. It's quite intuitive and relatively straight forward. I use the PSE 6/LR 2 combo myself. It meets all of my needs.

[I see.

i hate to ask this question but why do u need elemenbts if i get lightroom?

lightroom is good for editing raw images right, insetad of using the canon softweare to edit raw images / crop / border images etc / manage photos /

batch save all that stuff right?

so, do i really need elements 6 if i get lighroom 2?

I only shoot RAW therefore all my shots get edited in Lightroom before exporting. I use Elements when designing posters or whenever something needs to be added to an image. You can download a free 30 day trial of Lightroom 2 so you can try it to see whether it meets your needs before you pay for it. The two programs work well together and you can set up LR to auto open Elements when you export a shot.

i didnt really notice till the last couple of mnths how many photoigraphers use elements 6 opposed to forking out over a $%1000 for adobe CS

I roll just like TD does -- LR2 + elements 6

The major thing you give up with elements is curves (you have the basic curve, which is fine tuned contrast tool, much like the one in LR) and layer masking -- which, if you have used it, I don't think you could live without it.

I use elements to sharpen images (still not totally happy with LR2 in this regard), soften skin in portraits, add filter effects, remove unwanted stuff.

If you have a good image out of the camera, though, you could conceivably go from RAW to publish without touching elements.

LR is fantastic, but only makes global changes. If you want/need to make localized changes you'd still need PS/Elements.

I have never totally understood the terms "local" vs. "global". Could someone share exactly what they mean by that?

My feeling is "why pay for features which I'll never use?" I also don't need to get it just because there is a perception that all the pros use it.

You can download Layers Mask for Elements 6 if you need it. I have and it works fine.

Here is the link for it.

Like the ability to change the brightness, for example, of a certain area of an image rather than the entire image. LR wasn't able to do this - until LR 2 came out. Now LR 2 is capable of "local" edits. It's a very, very nice feature.

Ah..... Global applies to the entire image. Local applies to an area of an image.

Got it. Many thanks!!!
