Hi my current set up is 30D, 28-135 is , nifty fifty
i am still looking for a lens for motorcyle racing after talking to a few people the canon 70-200 seems to be coming out on top but as many seem to turn the is off for racing im thinking do i get the non is and save some bucks due to present climate.
Although IS is also useful in panning mode, by all means go for any of the Canon 70-200s, you won't regret it. All 4 of them are just superb lenses, with very, very good IQ.
I had some potait pics of kids done a while back and noted what lens they were using sigma 17-70, so started thinking get that aswell to complement the 70-200.
In that case, if I were you I'd rather get any of the 17/18-50/55 F/2.8 lenses out there. faster, and more to play with DoF wise. I think the Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 is about the same price as the Sigma 17-70, at least it is over here. I doubt whether you'd miss the 50-70 bit if you'd carry just the 17-50 and 70-200; I know I never did, and that was with the 17-40 and 70-200. F/2.8 over the whole range is IMO more useful than those few mms you'd miss out on.
As most of time pics are taken of kids or suroundings when we out and about.then thought to i need both so took a couple pics late yesterday afternoon both with on board flash.the lad is with 28-135 and my girl with nifty fifty.now i know is ,is supposed to be usfull in low light but can any body show me pic with it on and off in those kind of conditions.
You could easily try that for yourself, just use any of the non-automatic shooting modes and shoot without flash at large apertures to try this out. Best mode for this is Av IMO, setting aperture on the nifty to F/2 or F/2.2, and see what the results are. Just up the iso when you need a faster shutter speed to freeze the "action".
Also for motorcyle show me the befor and after crop and also pos with 1.4 tcon.
The 1.4X extender makes you loose a little IQ, but stop down 1 extra stop, and it is just as good as without the extender, on the 70-200 that is.
Kind regards, Wim
