Hello, last night I went on a Night time workshop and had a great time. We used filters during dusk and I was really surprised as to the difference they make. I think I used one that was + or - 2 stops. I forgot to get advice from the tutor about what kind of filter and what type I should buy. I know I need the screw on part (sorry don't know what its called) which the adapter slides on to and then the filters. Oh and what are the correct terms?
I have a Canon 5D and my lenses are 77mm. If anyone could give me some tips on which filters I should start with I'd appreciate it. I'm enjoying Landscapes at the moment.
Thanks
Catherine

If the filters were shaded on one half and clear on the other, they were Graduated Neutral Density (GND) filters. If they were fully shaded (no clear area) they were Neutral Density (ND) filters.

To use them on a lens with a 77mm filter diameter, you'll need the following:

1.) 77mm adapter ring (screws onto the lens filter threads)
2.) Filter holder assembly (attaches to the adapter ring)
3.) Filters themselves

In case you ask for a recommendation, I'd recommend the Lee foundation kit holder and the 77mm wide angle adapter ring. Filters, I'd go with Hitech (very good filters at a moderate price).
