I found some interesting tidbits while I was reading Sunday's paper.
"Micky & Minnie were seen riding around in a red convertible." Missed them.
"Her husband used to race a Mustang so fast that the cops would meet him at his house to give him tickets." It wasn't just him! I know guys that that happened to!
So I'd like to give you some of my thoughts & observations from Saturday.
Everyone has their own, sometimes bad idea, of what's an interesting car.
The old, bright orange Fiat SVO L, for instance.
Hundreds of dune buggies, kids on bikes doing wheelies in traffic, & clapped out hulks on trailers sporting "For Sale" signs. One clever kid had "Will accept donations for restoration" on the side of an old Chevelle, I think.
How about a Twin Pines Farm Dairy delivery truck with milkmen in delivery uniforms & glass quarts of milk in wire baskets?
A bugeye Sprite with the owner wearing an old circa Stirling Moss '50s racing helmet. He didn't wear the white T-shirt, though.
A '65 Stang with a a whinny horn & a 3' hair ponytail hanging from the trunk.
Two Delorians in parade with their doors open. (Did they come with AC?)
"Jake & Elwood" were there in style!
A passenger with an Obama head waving a McCain banner. (Got a LOT of cheers!)
Too many kids wearing "cute" monkey heads.
A pink '56 T-Bird, the driver a dressed in pink with a blond ponytail, & her pink poodle as passenger. Think "American Graffiti".
Boss Hog in his white Caddy with steer horns on the hood & too frequently blown Dixie horn.
"Animal" riding shotgun in a yellow '50s pickup. Loved it as he matched the t-shirt I bought for my birthday!
A Pantera with crappy (I bent it) ripples all along the side. Sadly, some people have no shame.
A Waste Management mini garbage truck with open headers. Sounded good. Wish he'd picked up the Pantera driver...
...as well as the ugliest pink Hummer strech limo you can imagine.
We had tons of Saleens, E-types, some all-out race cars that didn't like to idle in traffic, and to "top it off", above us, we had an aircraft towing a banner for Roto Rooter. Someone should have hired them to clear the posers, dufi, & mommie's SUVs out of the Classics lanes.
Other misc. offerings were anything someone could imagine. Sometimes you only saw them through a brief break in the traffic, just long enough to think OMG! Wish I could have got an image of them.
I did get one of this flamer & missed some too far away to shoot before they were lost in the scrum.
On the upside, we had great weather, thousands of great cars, 1,327 pairs of great legs (sorry, no images), 48,942 pairs that shouldn't have been in shorts, & a record crowd that had a lot of fun!
Can't wait 'till next year!
