My first attempt at runway photography, help please.

I got invited to come to a runway modeling show tonight for toni&guy, and it will have ALOT of models.


First question... Should I use my on top camera flash, or no flash at all?

I think floor and all is going to be white.


Second, I know I need a release, is there a decent general release so I can just use the stuff on my portfolio, not to sell.

So shoot went ok.


There was a hired photog there whom had two umbrellas set up on either side of the stage, he was using a 1d or 5d, alien bee on camera flash.

The 2 strobes on the umbrellas were OPTICAL. So I was getting the benefit of them also, along with every other person using any sort of flash, LOL.


I'll get some pics up later after work.


Hardest part is getting the shot in, as these models [60+ of them] didn't stop for long.

With regards to the flash, I would take it. A direct blast might be a little much. I might suggest lifting the head to 45 degrees, and taping a white index card to the top. That gives you a cheap bounce flash, which will be great for getting some catchlights in their eyes.

Yeah most the night I had the flash pointing to the celing, as it was white, and made for a decent effect along with the 2 "free" fill strobes on both sides.
