Hi guys,

Tried my first rolling shots during the weekend, but wasn't very impressed with the result.

camera was 40d and shoot with 24-105L with hoyo pro1 circular polarise.

firstly i tried shooting with one shot still drive and switched to AI sevo which gave me slightly sharper focus, but somehow the image still not as sharp as i was expected. was the shutter too slow? i was shooting between 1/40-1/60, and car speed was between 60-70kms.

you really dont have to go that fast when shooting the car... heres a shot of mine at 55 mph..

It could have been alot sharper...try upping the shutter speed alittle more....

I love the third shot.. its just alittle over exposed on the hood... but good shots none the less..

give me an idea of what you want as far as the background and stuff... and maybe i can help you more...

thanks for the reply

sorry the speed was on kmh, so 60-70kms is probably around 37-44 mph:oops:

I do want more background in the pic, and more road surface i think.

and aslo, is it possible to shoot rolling-shot with flashgun? will there be any benefit if i had the 508ex2 mounted on the camera and point direct to the car?

depends on the natural lighting for the flash... speed up the shutter speed just alittle more and you will get more to see.. i usually shoot around 1/200- 1/600 depending on what i want...

f/20 in the first shot!!! Eeeek.

I'd start about f/8 and1/125. Move iso if needed.

Shooting in Tv is fine, but you'll get mixed results when exposed for different portions of the car. This is where M mode comes into play.

But overall, get out there and shoot more!

moew!!!!!

This shows how the subject can affect the exposure & why manual keeps me worry free:

For a good starting point, first set the f-stop & shutter speed you need. Then adjust the ISO.

While I admit your car is sharp there is not nearly enough movement/blur in the background to give that essence of speed...

When shooting a white car in the middle of the day you might want to use EC and under expose the shot 1/3 to 1 stop. This might help from blowing the whites.
