This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before and After #97".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on August 19th at 8pm (Eastern).

Sunrise over a mountain lake.
In ACR underexposed the image.
Added the lake from an image I had and also changed the sky with another image I had.

I'll give another go. Nothing too exciting:

Adjustment Layer to green up the grass some.
2 x Sky pop multiply Layers (2 new layers set to multiply original picture - no other adjustments to those layers)
Added masked layer to adjust mountain range - trying to reduce haze a bit with curves adjustment. Slight hue adjustment after that to get more green.
Slight USM on background (original) image.

Let's see...
Cropped, added 5 layers with moon, werewolf, werewolf silhoette, sky, scratches.
Started by blending in each layer with erasure, saturation, burning and dodging tools.
Desaturated foreground with sponge tool. Contrast boost in scratch layer.
Curve adjustments on werewolf and foreground. Noise reduction. Border
It lacks quite a bit, but here you go :-)

I really didn't do a lot here.

I think just a small crop, then levels, contrast, some sharpening, some burning and a colored filter layer. Border.

I played on this way longer than planned, and still didn't quite get what I wanted. Let's see if I can remember what I did...
Opened in Camera Raw and on Basic tab:
adjusted black levels, recovery, contrast, clarity
on Tone Curve tab adjusted highlights & lights down and shadows & darks up, set it for strong contrast
on Split Toning tab, adjusted highlights & balance
Brought into PS & tweaked levels & color balance via new layers,
selected sky area and created new layer and adjusted color, brightness contrast & such until I got close to what I wanted (except for the clouds!)
Slight dodging on ground around hot springs to brighten just a bit

It's not ideally what I wanted, but it will do for the time I worked on it.
Seeing this photo from Mammoth Hot Springs (right?) brought back memories!

I may be fascinated with volcanoes, but the name's Lisa.

Well you all did very good on a photo I rescued from the recycle bin just for this comp!!

lavanut -- Mammoth Hot Springs is correct - last time I was there was before the earthquake and fires. There is not very much action right now, even old failthful has gone from about every 45 minutes to 80 minutes!

lavanut, symby and svetlana -- very nice and pretty much what I would have done.

hotrod - very nice attempt -- something about the lake blending just didn't work right for me.

Squip -- Dude you are amazing at this stuff!! Love the edit and I may actually keep the photo to try something like that for fun!

Suzyb -- Well done and that is actually pretty close to how it actually looked so Congrats and over to you!
