Shooting the Moon

My second attempt. my first was the eclipse right when I first started into photography not too long ago

Shot with my new to me 30D and my 75-300 lens on a tripod and I put the camera on timer due to a cheap tripod and the wobbles in the first few shots.

A bit of sharpening and a bit of contrast added. I also had to cool the image a bit in RAW processing....

A nice capture there.

You still have a slight magenta cast on this.
If shooting in raw try a daylight W.B setting in ACR since the moon reflects the suns rays.
You can also click on a neutral grey portion with the eyedropper to bring it back to neutral.

Also I highly recommend using mirror lockup to help with vibration.

ok thanks for the tips. It was a bit warm and I didn't want to cool it too far. But now that you say it. I totaly see the magenta....

How do you do a mirror lock up...??? I am still pretty new. Shot an XT for 3-4 months now have my 30D

And thanks for taking the time to look and provide tips.

Mirror lockup is enabled in your custom functions.
If you do use it just remember you have to press the shutter twice so you should use a cable release.
Press it once to lock the mirror up, wait a few seconds for the vibrations to settle and then press again to expose.

Thanks Dusty... I don't have the remote yet. I do recall reading about mirror lockup here once way back when I hardly new where my shutter button was...way back like 4 months ago...lol

This was close to one of my first shots it came out dark and really warm..Almost pinky orange (harvest moon like). Which is not how the moon was with my naked eye that night.

I always shoot manual now. I miss a shot here and there now but I am really learning a lot from doing it.

I will go with these settings tonight and see what I can produce. It was too cloudy last night.

I just used the one you posted here but I adjusted the WB and levels.
One thing though is that I oversharpened it a little too much.
Anyway you get the idea.
