So I was walking back from my parking spot and happened to be carrying my crappy tripod around with my camera to decided to take some pictures of the the New York skyline. I really liked how this one came out except for the lights down in the bottom left corner. I reduced their brightness in Lightroom, but they still draw my eyes to that corner. Let me know what you think!

I agree, it'd be better without the lights, and with a bit more color and contrast. Nice though :)

I agree with you, the lights are still a little overpowering. It's still a very nice shot though.

Yeah it blew out your highlights. Maybe try a different crop. Love the moon reflection.

Besides a different crop, what would be able to do in Photoshop to reduce the strength of those lights?

You can try wrapping them in a marching ants and trying to lower the contrast in that section only but its going to look weird. If you have the raw file you're better off trying to reduce the exposure of the entire image than using layers try to bring out the colors again, than add some contrast and s-curve.

BTW, Tripods are never crappy, just budget based. One further note, f/5.6 @ 10 seconds of exposure against lights is probably too much, but I'm sure you figured that out already. Either higher F (so less light) and less exposure time would do the trick. I personally would have gone F/10 @ 5 seconds... to start with.

Nice capture, but the buildings look a bit soft. As aram said, I would use a higher f/-stop. Since you had a tripod you could have exposed the shot a little longer.
Where is this spot, Jersey side?

That's what I'm thinking. Did you shoot raw?

Turn the brighntness and exposure down a notch, save as a seperate pic, then layer mask under the original.

If I wasn't at work, I'd give it a shot for you!

Also agree with the comments on long exposure and aperture.
