I captured this cute farm cat, and changed it to black and white, but wanted to make his eyes colored (yellowish/green), but can't figure out how to do that? Is it complicated? Anyone using this software (Elements 6.0) know how to do this, can you give me a quick lesson? Thanks so much!

Google for "Selective color Elements".

This is one of the links that comes up: Click (external link)

Since Elements doesn't have layer masks, here's a simple way to add color to the gray scale image.

Look in Image > Mode and be sure the mode is set to RGB.

1. Open a hue/sat adjustment layer above the BW image. Click on the "Colorize" option and adjust hue and saturation to get the eye color you want. (The whole image will be colorized, but don't worry about that. Just get the eye color to approximately what you want.)

2. Hit Ctrl-I to fill the hue/sat mask with black. All the color will disappear.

3. Paint with white on the eyes. This will "punch holes" in the mask and reveal the color just on the eyes. After that, you can open the hue/sat dialog box and re-adjust hue and saturation to fine tune the color.

Thanks, I tried to use the second method (Peano's reply), but it didn't work. Is elements really complicated or is it just me? I have had the software for a couple weeks, and I'm trying to find a book or CD to figure this all out. I might just return the software, and go with something more for amateurs!

It's very, very simple. Select what you want to be color, control-J to copy to a new layer, then make the background B&W using whatever method you like (I use adjustment layers). Turn down the opacity of the color layer to make it blend in a bit of you want.

It's a bit of both, I would wager.
