Hey All...

I'm working on some table top (or more correctly .. straight down on the floor) shots and need some suggestions on how to difuse Speedlights when working in close.

Here's the result from where I'm currently at (and I have a 580EXII on order to add a third light):

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

My basic set up:
- Tripod column reversed and ball head tilted such that I'm shooting straight down.
- Flashes are clamped to the tripod legs facing in and zoomed to 105mm aimed to bounce off...
- White board on two sides of the "pyramid" with a third smaller board on top

When I add the third flash, I think I want to be able to widen the flash zoom, re-train all three flashes so they're more direct but what would be the best way to soften the light?

I'm thinking Sto-Fen on all three heads but if you have a better idea, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks...

Jay

Cool shot.

I'm thinking a light tent with 4 walls and no roof.

That's essentially what I've jury rigged (more of a pyramid than a cube due to the tripod) but instead of the lights being outside the walls, they're inside the space.

I'll try bouncing all three first then see if maybe I can go to a light cube sort of set up. I have one but it's kind of a PIA to work inside of.

Didn't really complete my earlier thought. What I meant was something like wrap a white sheet or shower curtain around the tripod to form a tepee and shoot the flashes through from the outside.

What KRB said. You could shoot through some white copy paper or similar.

Hmmm,

I could build some "mini panels" to shoot through!

Now the wheels are turning!

Inflate a white balloon and then fire flash through balloon. Flash should almost touch balloon and balloon should be very close to subject. The existing white boards can stay and be relectors. Or san the flash and long expose with available light.
