Blast from the past - Canon 155A flash

I just bought one as a part of a kit. I gotta tell ya, cool little flash. Not like it pumps out a bunch of light, but very well built, nice and compact. Anyways, it's almost as old as I am and thought some of you would like to think back to your AE-1 days.

Is it safe to use it? I mean what Trigger voltage is that little flash has.

Does it sync with the 40D like it did with an AE-1 or A-1?

I think in the good old days it would automatically set the shutter speed to 1/60 and set the aperture to 5.6.

Heh, yes it's safe to use it. If anything, the 40D would short the flash out, not the other way around . And no Mike, it does not sync in neither of the auto modes.

From the image in the front it looks like it even has that Canon hole and slot sync port.

I've got one of those I picked up on ebay to possibly use as an optical trigger to fire some slaves. But, I haven't used it much other than to test it a few times and it works just great. Just set you camera settings on manual to match the flash and shoot away! Just like the old days.

I bought the Skyports and haven't needed it since then.

Those old Canon flashes will work as well with digital as they ever did with film. They have a safe trigger voltage. You just need to set the camera to match the flash and keep the shutter speed at X-sync or slower.
