Depends on the reason you want it. It wouldn't be my choice, but I wouldn't go so far as to call you "nuts." If you get the one, will you sell the other?

ehhh..personally I would take a new 70-200 2.8 over the old one that is not even serviced by canon anymore and if it breaks..well you are SOL.

I did this...and found I needed the IS so it didn't work for me...but my husband kept the 80-200 because he loves it. The 2.8 is nice, the colors are very nice. It's a little slower to focus than the USM lenses but for the price it's a very under appreciated alternative to the spendy 70-200 2.8.

I sold my 80-200L for the 70-200 f/4 IS, so I wouldn't go the other way. The drainpipe is a fantastic lens, but the f/4 IS is sharper, and I love the light weight with amazing IS.

Yeah, if you can get it on the cheap why not. If however you are paying nearly the same price as a 70-200/2.8L then yes, you are nuts :p

the drainpipe is an amazing lens...great quality and color

If you want a 70-200 -ish f/2.8 why dont you sell your f/4 IS and buy a 70-200 f/2.8?

That's what I did and I'm getting a 70 200L IS 2.8 new. Now I'm a happy dog.
