I recently bought a muslin backdrop that I really like but it is very stiff.

Anyone know of any secrets of how to soften it up a bit without washing out the colors?

I put it in the washing machine with no detergent and it softened it a bit but not enough.

I'm afraid to wash it too many times though.

Any help appreciated.

thanks

Why do you say it's too stiff. Isn't it hanging correctly?

Show it a picture of its mother in law, all stiffness should disappear.

I say it's too stiff because it's like a shirt that has been over starched. It's not very flexible and it's extremely hard to get any creases out. When I try to hang it it's very rigid and if folds it gets very hard creases.

Wad it up in a pillow case or duffle bag and then jump up and down on it. Have your kids roll around with it and use it as a punching bag. kick it, tug it, sit on it, abuse the duffle. Never fold it. Always wad it when putting it away.

Eventually, it will soften and hang nicely. You won't have to worry about creases any longer. In the mean time, adjust your F stop to get a smaller DOF and you'll be fine. I've never ironed mine and never will.

It was very stiff when I first got it.

+1 on this, I store mine in hefty garbage bags (seriously).

Yea, but it can be frustrating when you are seeking info and someone turns your thread into a string of jokes with no helpful info.

No offense to you but I was just trying keep the thread on track.

I've been wondering this too - I only have 1 muslin and its so stiff that anytime I fold it I get this terrible vision of it cracking all over.
