Hi chaps, well I've had my G9 for about 6 months now and am pretty happy, though I have had some problems (down to me - not the camera I'm sure) with the auto focus, I've searched the threads but maybe I can trouble a few of you with my personal dilemma, in a couple of situations I couldn't get a focus at all, I'd hold down the shutter release half way, the camera focuses and then, maybe, release and press again and the focus will go wrong or sometimes it seems that I get focus and fully depress the shutter and the focus changes, other occasions the camera seems to be hunting for focus and struggling - I'm really not explaining this very well but does anyone have any tips for improving my technique (we're not talking camera shake here ... just focus) I felt that flexizone was good for me maybe I'm wrong. Many thanks for taking the time Roger

Yeah, I believe it's not an uncommon problem with the G9

Shoot in manual and you'll be ok ;)

I've encountered this problem several times. Sometimes I'm zoomed in too close to allow focusing, so I zoom out a little and it corrects it.

You should check out Gordon Buck's blog on G9 focusing. Gordon has posted several tests he's run on focusing issues, and has consolodated them on this link.

Use the center focus point. It's more accurate and it will allow you to focus on what YOU want to focus on rather than letting the camera decide.

Thanks so much to one and all ... that excellent link to gordon Buck's blog was really interesting and taught me a few good lessons. (BTW I only received an email informing me of the first response, is this normal or do I have to mess with my settings I'm currently on 'instant email notification') again thanks for taking the time Roger

If only I found this thread earlier, I thought I was going mad and the only one with these issues, or me being too fussy
