I'm going to Paris for work for a few days and need bag. I asked for advice on what lenses to bring in another thread, and I've decided I'll be taking -

XSi w/battery grip
EF-S 17-55mm (probably attached to camera 85% of time)
EF 70-200mm 2.8 IS
EF 50mm 1.4

Since it's for work I'll also need to bring my notebook (Dell 14" Latitude).

This will be carry-on on the plane and also hauling around while site-seeing.
I'll leave the notebook in the hotel room while site-seeing though.

Do you think a messenger bag (Crumpler 7 million dollar home) would be comfortable enough for walking around all day?
Or should I go with a backpack? I'm thinking maybe the LowePro Vertex 100, or the Crumpler Whickey & Cox.

Any other ideas? I've never used a shoulder bag but am not against it... I've just leaned towards backpacks in the past...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Only other thing I can think of is a Fastpack 250 or 350 would be really good. Not sure if you need the quick access.

Anybody know if all this stuff would fit (notably my 70-200 2.8 IS) in the Crumpler Keystone instead of the Whickey & Cox? Keystone is a bit smaller than the W & C, but hauling around smaller is good, as long as it all fits.

Update & bump...

I've tried doing a few hikes with my 7 Million Dollar Home loaded with what I have listed above and it seems to get pretty heavy and my shoulder gets sore after not too long... How long do most people carry around this stuff in a messenger bag? Or maybe I'm just a wuss?

I guess I'm leaning back towards a backpack. I really like Crumpler bags but the more I look, the Whickey & Cox just seems huge...

Have a look at the Kata R-103 (external link). I have an R-102 (version w/o the laptop pouch) and love it. It is the most comfortable backpack I have ever worn.

I'm using a Tamrac 3380 aero zoom 80 laptop/camera backpack. It holds my photo gear with some extras, my laptop, laptop A/C adapter, a sweater, etc. without being huge. Water bottles go in the outer side pockets. It's been on many airplanes. Very quick access to laptop (needed to go through airport security) and the camera as well.

I'll second the Kata R-103. I had my laptop and my camera gear in this bag during a month-long trip this summer to South Korea. It's airline carry-on compliant, and it served me really well.

I LOVE my Lowepro FastPack 350!

Although you could get by with a small one due to the size of your lap top.

Not sure why it costs more than mine?

Mountainsmith Day (not Day FX) with a Domke insert

Domke F-803 with insert

Domke F5xb belt-pouch and carry the laptop in a backpack giving you the easy option to work quick and separate the two.

I discuss each of these bags on http://www.flyingwithfish.com (external link)

Another vote for the Kata R-103 from me... it's the best backpack I've ever owned. Fits all my gear and my laptop easily

Lowepro fastpack 350 if you don't mind the look (IMHO this bag looks really ... not that good)...

If you have some extra money to shell out, check out the compuprima aw from lowepro, I guess it is $280....almost 3 times the cost of a fastpack 350, but it looks better, has aw, and holds a tripod.
