Nice afternoon shots. (I love all the green!). On #1, what did you do? Add sepia? .. it's nice.
The fill on #2 is nice.. but I wish I could have seen a little more of the sunset.
#3 - the motion blur is nice.. but I tend to like the fences straightened (but that's just me). .. I like shooting flying manes with that nice backlight. Did you use your fill flash on this one?
#4 is nice. .. but usually, if you wait a minute, the horse will see something and prick up his/her ears. (or crunch a plastic bag.. or something to get his/her attention... though I know it's not always easy without an assistant). .. but I like it. Cute portrait of your friend and her horse. (arab mare?)

Thanks Playm, yes the first has some sepia added, with some work on the curves. #2 I agree with you, wider would be better, but -I had to crop this one tight too get some obstructions out. The 3rd had no flash, just had too bump up the curves on it. I don't like the angle much either or the postion of the horse, but I like the mane. You certainly have alot of experience with horses, here are a couple more shots that have some of the things you mentioned.

Oh YEAH!.. now THAT shot is worthy of a 16X20!! That is BeauTiful!! .. and .. don't you like the straightened fence better on the second one?

I've been around horses off/on most of my life. (I'm *almost* a senior citizen already..ugh ) ... but we've been raising/breeding/starting/showing (cutting) horses pretty much for the last 20 yrs. (AQHA ).. except that we stopped breeding and have downsized to the 'last' five.. (the ones we can't bare to let go) LOL .. so yes, we're still 'hands on' a number of times per day. .. our *day job* is also all about horses & dogs. .. so I guess we live & breath these fabulous beasts, huh.:D

I do like these better, I guess when I go through all of the photos, I get overwhelmed and pick little things I like out of the photos, and forget which ones are better overall lol. One thing I noticed about taking care of horses is it's a serious job. The lady in the photo is leasing the horse and she spends countless hours at the barn along with a full time job. BTW I looked at some of your posts earlier and you have fantastic horse shots ;).

I prefer the second set as well, especially the one where the horse is running. It's a much better shot of the horse's movement and I prefer the level horizon. The second shot of the two of them is fantastic, ears up makes a huge difference.

I like that first one in the first series for the colour and the overall feel of the picture, but my first impression was that the horse is just walking along and just finished relieving himself. It looks like there must be some Arab in him, so it's probably just the way he's trotting with his tail up which is quite natural for them obviously, but the angle of the shot kind of highlights the rear a little too much. Love what you did with the colours on it though!

Lol, so your what your telling me is that my first photo, which I believe is amongst my best photos ever, where I see a nice artistic expression, looks nothing more than that a caballo that just took a dump!? IS it that you don't like arab horses, or is it that arab horses take alot of dumps, or maybe the picture in general looks like the horse took a dump. I don't know what an Arab horse is, but I'll have you know I used the Liquify tool to pull the horses tail over the anus . I should have known I would be amongst many Horse afficianodos when I crossed into this territory, I guess horses poop alot more than I thought! Perhaps I should have posted this in the Experimental section :D.

Oh gosh, I didn't mean it was that bad!!! My mind is apparently in the muck bucket. Arabs run around with their tails in the air, it's just how they're made :D which I'm sure is what this horse is really doing! Sorry for the honesty, but it was really my first thought (after thinking what lovely colour you had). PLEASE don't take it the wrong way

It's just when horses - other than Arabs - run around with their tails like that, it usually means they're either about to have a poop, or they just finished. I apparently spend FAR too much time picking the stuff up. And yes, they do poop a LOT. My husband, who was not a horse guy in any way, was in complete shock at how much they poop when I first brought them home

No don't worry, I didn't take any offense, I am not super critical about my photos or anything. I just think it's funny how I see the photo completely different than you, but because you know horses so well. I haven't had many encounters with horses so I never related horse poop to the image. For me it was no different a human being turned away and walking along a fenceline. Now what caught me by surprise is that the person I took the photo for especially likes that photo, and she and she is around her horse alot. Considering she didn't relate the photo with pooping, I am wondering if her horse is possibly constipated :-o ha!

Glad to hear I didn't offend you. I'm sure the horse is NOT taking a poop seeing as it is an Arab....... and it is a nice photo. Next time I'll post before I clean the barn ;)

Having raised and shown Arabs for several decades in a previous life, I can tell immediately the difference between a "poop" tail and the classic Arab tail set. The minute I saw the first shot, my mind said "What a gorgeous shot of an Arab". I love #1 for it's mood and the "ears up" portrait shot is stellar. Very very nice. 1, 2 or the portrait could easily become a cover shot for an Arab magazine. Great captures.

Thanks Julie thats super kind of you to say. I guess I am lucky it was an Arab so it helps eliminate the poop factor lol. I'm glad you enjoyed them :)
