Yes, you can if all you want to do is trigger the flash in manual and non-wireless remote modes.

Hooking the flash up is the easy part. Depending on how and what you're using the flash for, actually using it may be the harder part, i.e. setting the flash up for the right exposure. :)

Anyone had recent experience with this particular setup?
I'm going set up a little garage studio and would like to try this before going down the Pocket Wiz. route.

cheers Mick

Sync cables were used long before RF remotes came into use and are pretty reliable as long as they are constructed well. PC plugs do tend to develop loose connections over time (screw-lock PC plugs are much better, though) but that can easily be remedied with the use of a PC plug conditioner or a pair of pliers. And they're very inexpensive. So, go ahead and set up your studio and use them until you're ready to go wireless. Just make sure you or your subjects don't trip over the sync cables. :)

Thanks. Anyone have a link to a tutorial on using this setup? I will be using the 580 on a light-stand with a small umbrella, and separate reflector on same. I will post the results.. ;)

Cheers.
