Ok so I just got my 430EX, and Im waiting for my batteries to charge. What I was wondering is setting the flash exposure compensation in camera work with the flash or do I have to use the flash itself to set it?

Ive got FEC set to the SET button on my XTi for when I was using my poopup flash so I kinda got used to it. It just seems like it would be too much of a pain to adjust via flash when doing it from camera would be so much easier and not to mention easier to read.

Also does the backlight light up when my LCD lights up or do I have to push the button each time?

Thanks in advance

You can the FEC from the camera as long as the FEC on the flash is set to 0. If it's not, the flash FEC will override that set on the camera.

Although setting the FEC on the camera may be much more convenient than setting it on the flash, with the camera the FEC range is +/- 2 stops. On the flash it is +/- 3 stops.

If you want the LCD backlit, you will need to push the backlight button. The backlight doesn't light up on its own even if the LCD is on.

newer cams like the 40d and 1dsmk3 can adjust the flash from the cam, but all others u gotta do it on the flash.. i like to adjust settings on the flash because its one less thing that could go wrong and get set wrong through camera menus, id rather have the hands on

oh fec.. i was thinking the whole shebang
