I'm a chump with f/2.8 being my fastest standard-range optic, and flash would have killed this.

Your timing was good, but the settings needed adjustment. Nice photo, just soft. Could you have bumped up the iso?

Check the EXIF. I was already at ISO3200. Its "soft" because it's high ISO and f/2.8...he's somewhat sharp but she's out of the DOF.

I do have a B&W version here, but honestly, I get tired of hiding behind B&W and/or seeing others do the same.

Hah basically. I got the whole series @ 8FPS from door to there. I really don't think it's that bad.

They will love that you got the entire thing! I'd be thrilled if I were them...and sometimes we're too critical of ourselves.

Yeah..I like high quality images as much as the next guy but sometimes it's about the moment and nothing but timing matters.

I've had bubbles burst in my eyes before. That sucks.

This should go on my wall of quotes.

that method does save a lot of images

Flash would have stopped the motion and given you the ability to shoot lower ISO and should have made this moment workable. But heck who am I to say.....maybe the couple likes crappy photos. :)

It does not get any more clearer than this quote right here. Nothing much more you could have done Don, other than use a 50 1.8, but then you wouldn't have gotten what you wanted (the series of shots). I love the shot by the way.

Maybe you should work on that. I have maybe 12 shots from the entire day that could be "saved" with B&W...and they're all for the same reason - choosing high ISO to use the FPS. Most of my other duds are due to being OOF, bad timing, or me being an idiot and getting camera shake. And yes, I need to work on that.

Bad light is far worse than digital noise, IMHO

Yeah I don't have a 50 anymore and the focus on those is debatable anyway...and there's the whole DOF thing when you shoot really fast glass wide open. It's bad enough as it is in that regard. I wouldn't want to have her look like a big ball of bokeh.
