Thinking about this combo, use to love the 35L on my 30D's but have been using FF bodies for a while now and would just like to get a feel for what that combo can produce.
So, please.....can I see your shallow DOF favorites with this combo?

Much Appreciated:D

Hi Matt!
The 35L is going to be my next lens purchase. I have rented one and yet to get a bad shot out of it on any body.

Awww, thanks Jon, great shot's love the 1st one with the kids in the bokeh. How did you like that combo? Do you find the IQ to be similar to the 1Dmk3 50L combo? I just want that "Pop" if I go for the 40D and 35L as a backup. My 1Dsmk2 50L give me that, but I want a light kit that'll do it too, but not the 5D.....I'd like the 40D (i think)

Yeah Scott, it is a smokin lens for sure, I sold it though, it didn't match up to my FF like I wanted it to (wrong FL for me). Just want to see some "3D" shots with that combo.

When I had the combo...I sold the 40D and 35L to get the MKIII and 50l.....

I loved it. It hardly came off my camera. I would have kept the 35l but I couldn't afford it all....

I will own another 35L some day. The IQ is awesome.

yeah, I remember that Jon, and totaly here you about being able to afford both, I have a mint 1Dmk2 on the way that if I can sell, with some cash I have set aside....I'll have enough for a 35L and a 40D. I don't particularly like the 50mm FL on a 1.3 crop....just a tad long for me. Otherwise I'd just stay put. Also, I'd like a very fast standard L prime I can push through the f stops with zero shift.

I love the 50 on the 1.3. I love that focal length. Probably because I liked the 85 on film. I mean I know we are talking 65mm.....and not 85...but to me it "feels" the same.

Now I haven't shot film in years...and I am getting older so who knows what I am really feeling....but I love it.

If I still had the 40d with the 35L it would be a toss up which would feel better to me...they are so close.

I would love to get a 24 1.4 to play with...;)

This is interesting to me, guess I'll play with the 50 on the 1.3 crop for a week or two and see how I feel about it. Thanks

Matt......you go through a ton of bodies and lenses. The 40D combo sounds like the only one you have not tried. Are you keeping the 1Ds2?

I have read where the 24L rates as the bottom of sharpness compared to 35,50 and 135.

You apparently haven't shot much with one in fact center sharpness is as good as the 135 actually allot better at f/2 than the 135 and better than the other lenses you just listed. The edge wide open is still really good and not that much different than the 35L. Anyway my copies and I shoot with 5Ds. I haven't had any real sharpness isues with mine at the corners even wide open. And remember its a pretty wide lens when shooting FF.

Yep, keeping the 1Ds2...It's my favorite....I'll tell you what, for me this is a hobby and an art, I love to shoot, I love to try out everything I can get my paws on, I'm always looking for my favorite pieces or trying to see if maybe the lesser cost item of a particular FL is just as good (IQ wise) for me than the more expensive one.
Same with bodies. How will I know if I don't give them a chance? There are some items I know I use all the time and keep. The 1Dsmk2, the 50L, the 70-200/2.8IS. Sometimes it takes selling one for me to realize I can't live without it. So, yeah, I guess it's part of the fun of photography for me, not just shooting, PP and learning, but the buying and selling too:)
Not for everyone I know, but it works for me;)
